Maratha quota activist firm on march to Mumbai despite health deterioration

Maratha reservation agitation leader Manoj Jarange-Patil on Wednesday (September 16, 2026) asserted that he would continue his march towards Mumbai and reach Azad Maidan on Friday (September 18, 2026) at 10 a.m., while his health has deteriorated, forcing him to stay in Patoda, Beed district.
“I will leave on Thursday from Beed at 1 p.m. However, I will declare the date for Maratha community members to come to Mumbai later as government has sent some draft. I will read and let you know accordingly,” Mr. Jarange Patil. This also means the original plan to halt in Ahilyanagar’s Shrigonda region and Pune’s Hadapsar would no longer take place.
Beed District Surgeon Dr. Satish Solanke has confirmed on record that Mr. Jarange Patil’s blood pressure and sugar levels have dropped.
A petition has been filed by Mumbai’s Amy Foundation in the Bombay High Court, demanding not to grant permission to hold a protest in Mumbai. The grounds for the petition are that if permission is granted, public roads and public spaces could be shut down, as happened during last year’s protest.
Lawyer Mahendra Ratna said, “The protest will bring a huge crowd affecting people and causing inconvenience as Ganeshotsav is going on. So, we have filed the petition.” The hearing on this petition will take place on Thursday (17 September).
Mr. Jarange Patil applied for permission twice, which was reject by the Mumbai Police. He had been on an indefinite hunger strike since August 29
