Mark Carney wants the U.K. and Germany to join Canada’s new defence bank, says lead negotiator - Toronto Star

Canada is leading a push for a 100-billion-euro global defence bank — and four Canadian cities are vying to host it.

The lead negotiator in Canada’s quest to establish a global Defence, Security and Resilience Bank (DSRB) says Prime Minister Mark Carney wants to do “everything possible” to have the U.K. and Germany join the bank as he works to strengthen ties with Europe. 

Speaking with the Star on Wednesday, lead negotiator Isabelle Hudon said that she has been asked to try to get the two G7 nations to become DSRB members. 

“I’ve been deploying a lot of effort to ... convince officials, but the last stretch is really at the political level,” she said, “from Prime Minister to Prime Minister.”
