Married Couple from Banjarmasin Victims of KM Virgo Buried Together, Remembered as Generous Souls

BANJARMASIN, KOMPAS.com - The bodies of the KM Virgo Transport 8 victims, a married couple from Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan (Kalsel), were laid to rest on Saturday afternoon (September 19, 2026).

The couple, Muhammad Abdiannoor (30) and Yuli (29), were buried side by side in a single grave.

The burial was held immediately after the Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) team from the Medical and Health Division (Bidokkes) of the South Kalimantan Regional Police successfully identified them.

The funeral was solemn and attended by hundreds of mourners.

Nazwa, a family member, expressed disbelief over the sudden passing of Abdi and Yuli.

In the eyes of the family, Abdi and Yuli were generous individuals who often and willingly helped relatives in times of difficulty.

"I can't imagine it, sir. They were both kind people who liked to help our family. They were generous and often gave charity," Nazwa recalled to Kompas.com on Sunday (September 20, 2026).

Abdi and Yuli traveled to Java along with six other family members for a pilgrimage to several Wali tombs.

Nazwa said the group flew there but decided to return by sea.

"They even called to say they were returning by ship," Nazwa explained.

Besides Abdi and Yuli, another family member named Surya (59) was also found and buried.

Surya is the stepfather of Abdi, Nazwa revealed.

"So, the eight of them were from one family traveling together. Surya is Abdi's stepfather," Nazwa clarified.

Another family member, Husnul Khotimah (39), said there were no premonitions or unusual feelings before all the victims departed.
