Maruti Suzuki Victoris long term review | Intro
The Victoris has joined our long-term fleet, and this time we’ve got our hands on the fully loaded ZXi+(O) variant equipped with Maruti Suzuki’s AllGrip Select AWD system. That has me even more excited, and I’m looking forward to exploring the capabilities of the all-wheel-drive setup in a variety of driving conditions. Maruti Suzuki has loaded the Victoris to the brim with features. Our test car gets a panoramic sunroof, powered tailgate, ventilated electric front seats, a 360-degree camera, and a long list of convenience and safety equipment. Finished in a dual-tone paint scheme, it also makes a strong visual impression, while the overall fit, finish and cabin quality feel decidedly premium.
Powering the Victoris is Maruti Suzuki’s 1.5-litre K15C petrol engine that develops 103bhp and 139Nm of torque. It comes paired with a six-speed automatic transmission, complete with paddle shifters for those moments when you’re in the mood for a more engaging drive. We’ve covered just over 100km so far, and the Victoris has already impressed us with its refinement. It cruises effortlessly through city traffic, while the NVH levels are exceptionally well controlled, making every journey relaxed and comfortable. As for fuel efficiency, we’ll share accurate real-world figures after spending more time with the SUV. For now, the trip computer is displaying an average of 13.5kmpl, which is an encouraging start for a vehicle of this size. Now for the pricing. This top end variant is priced at Rs 19.37 lakh (ex-showroom). Now many will question the value of this vehicle and compare it to its very own cousin the Grand Vitara. Considering both are based on the same platform, the benefits remain similar. However, the Victoris is sold via the Arena chain of dealerships while the Grand Vitara is offered via Nexa. Now, this will open up the Victoris to a much larger audience and chances of this vehicle selling more is much higher. Moreover, it is the ICOTY as well, which comes as a seal of approval from us as well. Stay tuned for more detailed updates and real-world impressions in the forthcoming issues of Auto Today.
There is little to doubt that I am a proper petrolhead. Grew up collecting scale models and still does so. The passion became a proffession decades back and from then on there has been no looking back. For a living I test vehicles using sophisticated data logging equipment and then crunch data to tell you the results and my verdict. I am also on the jury of the Indian Car of the Year and the Indian Motorcycle of the Year awards.
When not at work (which is rarely) I love tending and restoring old motorcycles and scooters which are all a part of my personal collection. And did I tell you that being fiercly Bengali I do not mind riding or driving hundreds of kilometers to get to my favorite curry!
