Mayon emits ash anew
MANILA, Philippines — Another ash emission occurred at Mayon Volcano in Albay yesterday morning, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology.
Phivolcs said the ash emission occurred at 8:22 a.m. and produced a grayish plume that rose 1,600 meters above the crater before drifting southwest.
Alert Level 3 or increased tendency toward a hazardous eruption remains hoisted over Mayon.
State volcanologists said entry into the six-kilometer-radius permanent danger zone of the volcano is strictly prohibited due to possible pyroclastic density currents, lava flows, rockfalls and other volcanic hazards.
Residents in areas surrounding Mayon have been advised to remain vigilant against pyroclastic density currents, lahar and sediment-laden stream flows along channels draining the edifice.
Flying an aircraft close to the volcano’s summit is prohibited due to the possibility of a sudden eruption or ash emission.
