Might as well disband UP Police: SC takes state cops to task over faulty FIR

The Supreme Court came down heavily on the Uttar Pradesh Police over the handling of an FIR in which the accused's name was initially left blank and added later. The top court questioned how people could be expected to trust the police if cases were dealt with in such a manner.

Hearing the case, the court expressed strong displeasure over the FIR and questioned the actions of the state police. It remarked that there appeared to be an agenda.

"If you handle cases this way, how will people trust you?" the court said.

The Supreme Court noted that the accused's name was not mentioned in the FIR when the criminal case was registered, but was subsequently added.

"It would be better to ask the CBI to participate in all UP Police investigations. It would be better to abolish the UP Police itself. This nonsense must stop at some point," the court added.- Ends
