MMC Commissioner urges public to segregate waste into four bins

Commissioner of the Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation T. Vinay Krishna Reddy has called for use of four bins for domestic waste segregation at source, in order to enable scientific processing of waste.
Mr. Vinay Krishna Reddy formally launched the “4-bin segregation campaign” and another programme to process flower waste on Tuesday, and said that there is a need for wide ranging awareness campaigns about the four bin segregation, as per the newly adopted Solid Waste Management Rules 2026, and the Supreme Court directions.
As per the SWM guidelines, four bins need to be maintained for garbage disposal by all households — the green bin for wet waste, the blue bin for dry waste, red bin for hygiene related waste such as diapers, sanitary napkins, tampons and condoms, and black bin for special care or hazardous waste such as expired medicines, old batteries, light bulbs, chemical and paint containers.
Mr. Vinay Krishna Reddy also spoke about separate collection of flower waste, in order to process it into useful organic products.
He inaugurated a mascot for the segregation, and flagged off three publicity vehicles with LED screens. The vehicles will go around the Ganesh immersion spots, to spread awareness about four bin segregation, flower waste management, and protection of environment.
The Commissioner urged the public not to dispose of the immersion waste at will, but rather deposit it at the special collection centres established at the locations.
