Mosimane keeps feet firmly on the ground after Egypt win - EWN
Bafana Bafana head coach Pitso Mosimane is refusing to get carried away after South Africa secured an impressive 1-0 victory over Egypt in Cairo on Sunday night.
The result capped a positive international window for Bafana, but Mosimane insists there is still plenty of work to be done as he looks to guide South Africa towards the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Mosimane made nine changes to the team that featured in Bafanaβs opening two AFCON qualifiers, giving several younger players an opportunity to test themselves against one of Africaβs established football nations.
The changes initially made it difficult for South Africa to settle, with Mosimane admitting that his side struggled during the opening five minutes.
βThe first five minutes we could not find our feet. Itβs normal because we brought the young ones. We changed the whole team. It takes a little time to gel and to come together.β
However, the Bafana coach was delighted with how his players grew into the match and gained confidence as the game progressed.
βWhat I like is theyβre not afraid to play. We need to give them a chance and let them swim with the sharks. Throw them in the deep end and they swam.β
