Mother, daughter electrocuted by live wire loosened in rain at Nathavaram in Andhra’s Anakapalli district

A mother and her daughter were electrocuted, and the daughter’s husband was injured, after coming into contact with a live galvanised iron (GI) support wire in Golla Veedhi of Nathavaram mandal in Anakapalli district in the early hours of Thursday (September 24, 2026).
The deceased were identified as Gompa Manga, 55, and Rongala Janaki, 28, of Golla Veedhi, Nathavaram.
Continuous rain had soaked the GI support wire connected to the electrical service line of a local resident, Gompa Apparao alias Chinnababu, the police said. The insulation tape had peeled off, and the live wire snapped and dangled from the rooftop into the verandah.
At about 3.30 a.m., Janaki stepped out to use the bathroom and touched the hanging wire. Hearing her screams, her mother rushed to help her and was electrocuted too.
Janaki’s husband, Rongala Nagaraju, 32, tried to push the wire away with a wooden stick, but he too received a shock and began shouting for help. A neighbour, Ankam Reddy Kumari, alerted the electricity substation, and power supply to the area was cut. By then, Janaki and Manga had died on the spot.
Nagaraju was taken by a 108 ambulance to the Narsipatnam Area Hospital, where he is being treated. Electricity department officials and the police reached the site, cleared the hanging wire and sent the bodies to the hospital for post-mortem examination.
The rain had come with the deep depression over the Bay of Bengal, which crossed the coast near Kalingapatnam between 11 p.m. on Wednesday and 1 a.m. on Thursday after two days of rain across north Andhra.
Officials have urged residents to report damaged service lines and sagging wires at once during the rain to prevent such accidents.
