Mount Anak Krakatau Ash Forces Cancellation of 209 Soekarno-Hatta Flights - Tempo.co English
TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - PT Angkasa Pura Indonesia (Persero), or InJourney Airports, recorded 209 scheduled flight movements at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport (Tangerang, Banten) that were cancelled due to the eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau.
"Based on flight data from 01:30 WIB to 09:30 WIB (Western Indonesian Time) on September 6, 2026, there were 209 scheduled flight movements at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport that were cancelled," said Yudistiawan, Assistant Deputy for Communication & Legal Affairs at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, in Tangerang on Sunday, September 6, 2026.
He noted that the 209 cancelled flights comprised 160 domestic flights, 39 international flights, and 10 cargo flights.
"Soekarno-Hatta International Airport continues to coordinate with relevant stakeholders to manage the impact of the temporary closure, including flight schedule adjustments and passenger handling," he stated.
Operational recovery measures will be implemented gradually, taking into account the status of volcanic ash and flight safety considerations.
The airport's management continues to coordinate with stakeholders to ensure that operations and passenger services proceed smoothly during this situation.
To assist affected passengers, the airport has activated its Service Recovery Activation (SRA) protocol, providing food and light refreshments.
"The airport has also arranged buses at every terminal to facilitate passenger transport to hotels, in coordination with the airlines," he said.
Additionally, Yudis mentioned that various support facilities have been prepared to meet passenger needs during the temporary closure; for instance, a command post has been opened at Terminal 1B to streamline coordination and the management of on-site operations. "Regarding commercial services, Soekarno-Hatta Airport has coordinated with terminal tenants to ensure 24-hour service operations, thereby continuing to meet passenger needs during the temporary closure period," he said.
Meanwhile, AirNav Indonesia (the Indonesian Air Navigation Service Provider/LPPNPI) has updated aeronautical information regarding the extended temporary closure of airspace at three airports due to the impact of volcanic ash from Mount Anak Krakatau.
AirNav Indonesia EVP of Corporate Secretary Hermana Soegijantoro stated that, through the issuance of Notices to Airmen (NOTAMs), temporary flight closures have been extended for Soekarno-Hatta International Airport (WIII), Halim Perdanakusuma Airport (WIHH), and Radin Inten II Airport (WILL).
"AirNav Indonesia also continues to coordinate with aviation stakeholders to ensure that information regarding airspace conditions and air navigation services is communicated in a timely manner," he said.
He explained that Soekarno-Hatta International Airport currently remains closed under NOTAM A3346/26 (NOTAMR A3344/26), effective from 08:36 WIB, with a scheduled reopening at 13:30 WIB on Sunday, September 6, 2026.
Meanwhile, the closure of Halim Perdanakusuma Airport has been extended via NOTAM A3347/26 (NOTAMR A3345/26). The closure has been in effect since 09:49 WIB, with a scheduled reopening at 14:00 WIB.
"For Radin Inten II Airport, the closure has been extended via NOTAM B1125/26 (NOTAMR B1124/26) starting at 09:55 WIB, with a scheduled reopening at 14:00 WIB," he stated.
