MRT service resumes after fire on track - Bangkok Post

Screenshot: Fire & Rescue Thailand Some MRT services were suspended after a fire caused by a short-circuit on the railway line between Bangkok's Tao Poon and Bang O stations on Sunday afternoon.

A fire was reported on the overhead electric railway tracks near Tao Poon station in Bangkok's Bang Sue district about 12.20pm on Pracharat Sai 2 Road, in front of the Chewathai condominium building.

Fire and rescue units were sent to the scene about 12.32pm. They found an electrical short circuit involving cables on the railway track. Flames were still visible as they worked to bring the situation under control.

"At present, MRT services have been temporarily suspended at all stations due to a fire along the railway line between Tao Poon and Bang O stations.

Staff and relevant agencies are currently rushing to inspect and deal with the situation, with the safety of passengers and staff being given the highest priority.

We fully understand that this incident is affecting the travel plans of many passengers, and BEM is taking every possible measure to resume services as quickly and safely as possible."

"Due to some power supply being disrupted, the MRT will be closed at Bang O to Kamphaeng Phet Station. Please use MRT Stations nearby. Passengers may experience delays of up to 60 mins. We apologise for any inconvenience."

No injuries were reported. However, sparks falling from the track caused minor damage to a motorcycle parked below.

A 3pm announcement said "Due to service power supply being disrupted on the MRT Blue Line between Taopoon and Bang O Station heading to Tha Phra Station, we are working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible. Please allow extra travel time or consider alternative transportation. We apologise for any inconvenience caused."
