MSU basketball reportedly showing interest in local point guard prospect - Spartans Wire
A local prospect in the 2029 class has started to pick up interest from Michigan State, according to one men's basketball recruiting insider.
Michigan State reportedly had coaches watch local point guard prospect Jace Opoku on Monday, according to Dushawn London of 247Sports. Opoku is a point guard in the 2029 class that plays for Rockford High School, which is approximately 80 miles from East Lansing.
Opoku is not yet rated in 247Sports' system for the 2029 class. He measures 6 feet, 2 inches and 160 pounds, and he is starting to pick up some steam on the recruiting trail.
According to London, Purdue and Iowa State visited Opoku last week. The Cyclones extended an offer to him afterward. He also has offers from West Virginia, Central Michigan and Louisiana.
With Opoku being a part of the 2029 class, he still has a long way to go in his recruitment process. But, the fact Michigan State is already keeping tabs on him is a promising sign for the rising sophomore point guard. This will be someone we have to watch over the next year or two.
