Mumbai Indians have appointed former India batter Robin Uthappa as their new batting coach as the five-time IPL champions continue to reshape their coaching setup ahead of the 2027 season. Uthappa steps into the role following Kieron Pollard's elevation from batting coach to head coach, with the franchise bringing in a fresh voice to strengthen its batting unit.

The appointment comes amid a significant overhaul of Mumbai's support staff. The franchise recently parted ways with bowling coach Lasith Malinga, additional bowling coach Paras Mhambrey and fielding coach Carl Hopkinson, following Mahela Jayawardene's exit as head coach. Pollard's appointment marked the beginning of a new chapter, and Uthappa's arrival adds another change as Mumbai look to bounce back after finishing ninth in IPL 2026 and missing the playoffs.
