Former Keralam Minister and Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) leader M.K. Muneer has not received his MLA pension for the past three months, apparently due to an error in a letter issued by the Accountant General’s (AG) office to the Treasury.
The letter, which was meant to facilitate the payment of Mr. Muneer’s pension, reportedly carried the name of former minister K. Babu instead of Mr. Muneer. Although the AG’s office has since issued a corrected letter, Mr. Muneer has not yet received the pension. Meanwhile, the Muslim League leader is also said to be unhappy over the delay in announcing his appointment as chairman of the Administrative Reforms Commission.
His absence from the main conference organised in connection with the Muslim Youth League (MYL) Kozhikode district conference earlier this week, despite being in the city, has raised eyebrows among party workers. IUML State president Syed Sadikali Shihab Thangal and national general secretary P.K. Kunhalikutty attended the event, which Mr. Muneer did not attend.
His absence is being viewed by some party workers as a sign of his displeasure over the delay in announcing his appointment as chairman of the Administrative Reforms Commission, a post that carries Cabinet rank. An assurance had reportedly been given that the appointment would be announced at the previous Cabinet meeting.
