My father was of loose character: Kanpur millionaire's son on murder motive

The son of Kanpur businessman Vineet Minocha, who was arrested for his father’s murder, has said he wanted him to die because of his relationships with several women, but regretted the manner in which he was killed. Calling his father a man of “loose character”, Subrat said he did not want him to be stabbed to death but had wanted him to die.

Subrat also spoke about his father’s relationships, his own financial difficulties and the alleged plan to kill Vineet. He said the plan was made around three to four months before the murder and that he had discussed it with former employee Vishal Gautam.

Police said Subrat initially blamed his wife Shalu but later took responsibility for arranging the murder. Shalu has denied any role, and police have not given her a clean chit.‘I WANTED HIM TO DIE’

Asked whether he still believed his father should have died, Subrat referred to Vineet’s relationships with several women. He said Vineet was open about his relationships and would tell the family that what he did was his own business and that they should not interfere.

Subrat’s comments came as police investigated the motive behind Vineet’s killing, including his relationships, his son’s financial difficulties and a possible property angle.

Subrat said Vineet gave him Rs 40,000 every month for his expenses, while his monthly expenditure was around Rs 55,000. Asked how he managed the difference, he said he took loans and used credit cards, which increased his liabilities.

Police have separately found that Subrat had debts of more than Rs 20 lakh, including loans from Money View, ICICI, Navi and a friend. Investigators are also examining an earlier dispute between Vineet and Subrat over money from the sale of office items.‘THE PLAN WAS MADE 3-4 MONTHS AGO’

Subrat told reporters that the plan to kill Vineet was made three to four months ago and that he had told Vishal about it. He said money was offered to Vishal to carry out the plan and indicated that the intention was to make the death appear natural.

Subrat also said he had the original key to the premises and had got a duplicate made in case the original did not work.

He said he and Vishal met on the evening of September 5 on Virala Road and had spoken over the phone. Subrat claimed Vishal told him he could not carry out the plan alone and needed another person.258 CALLS BETWEEN SUBRAT, VISHAL

However, Vishal’s account to police differs from Subrat’s version. According to investigators, Vishal told them that Subrat had instructed him to name Shalu if they were caught and had promised him Rs 6 lakh. He also allegedly said Subrat called him around six times on the day of the murder and wanted the killing to appear like a natural death.

Police are examining around 258 calls between Subrat and Vishal, compared with around 28 between Vishal and Shalu. Vishal also allegedly bought a new SIM on September 3, from which five calls were made only to Subrat.

Vishal allegedly told police that Vineet saw him and another accused during the attack and raised an alarm, following which he panicked and attacked Vineet with a knife.PROPERTY ANGLE UNDER PROBE

Vishal has also allegedly claimed that Subrat feared Vineet could transfer his property to one of the women with whom he allegedly had relationships.

Police are examining the claim alongside the financial angle. Vineet’s registered 2022 will, however, divided his properties among his wife Punita, Subrat and daughter Shubhani.SUBRAT LATER TOOK RESPONSIBILITY

According to police, Subrat initially blamed Shalu for the murder but later changed his account during sustained questioning.

He allegedly told investigators that he felt guilty that Shalu had become embroiled in the case because of him and decided to take responsibility.

Police also questioned the husband and wife face-to-face. Shalu reportedly broke down on seeing Subrat and cried for around 20 minutes, while Subrat spoke little and later turned his face away.

Police said Subrat eventually confessed around 4 am after realising that his arrest was imminent and that he would have to go to jail.

The investigation is continuing, with police matching the statements of Subrat, Shalu and Vishal with call records, CCTV footage, their movements and other circumstantial evidence. The claims made by the accused are yet to be independently corroborated.- Ends
