Mysuru man pours petrol on himself after rejection, tries to hug woman

A man allegedly tried to kill himself by pouring petrol on his body outside a college in Mysuru, then attempted to embrace a woman who had rejected him, putting her at risk too.

The incident took place outside Vidyavardhaka College of Engineering. The man, identified as Chandan, is from Alagodu village in Malavalli taluk. He had reportedly been pursuing the woman, who is from the same village, but she had turned him down.

Police intervened and took Chandan to KR Hospital. The woman sustained minor injuries and is being treated at a private hospital in Mysuru. Investigators are establishing how she was injured and whether the petrol ignited.

The incident follows other cases in Karnataka involving violence after a rejected proposal or a relationship dispute. In July 2025, a man in Chikkaballapura allegedly threw toilet-cleaning acid at a woman after she rejected his marriage proposal, then set himself on fire.

In June this year, a man died in a car explosion in Tumakuru after allegedly threatening to die with his former partner. She escaped from the vehicle and survived.- Ends
