A Delhi court has sent alleged international drug trafficking network handler Navpreet Singh to 10 days of police custody after he was deported from Turkiye and brought back to India, officials said.

Singh was produced before the Rouse Avenue Court, where the Delhi Police sought 10 days of custody for further investigation. The police told the court that Singh would be taken to Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra as part of the investigation.

The police also sought to question Singh alongside three accused already arrested in the case - Ramandeep, Gurpreet and Gurjot - to establish the alleged network and determine their respective roles.NAVPREET SINGH BROUGHT BACK FROM TURKYE

According to the investigation, Singh had been staying abroad using a purported false identity. Authorities brought him back to India from Turkiye, where he was reportedly operating in connection with an international drug trafficking network.

Investigators have described Singh as a key handler of a suspected drug syndicate based in Turkiye. He was also reportedly using the name β€œNavab Virk” as an identity while staying in the country.

The agencies have been investigating his suspected links to a network involved in trafficking heroin and methamphetamine from Afghanistan to India. The investigation is also examining his links with other accused persons and the alleged movement of drugs across different states.

Singh’s name had earlier surfaced in connection with a major drug syndicate case registered in Delhi in 2021. According to court records, investigators had recorded the seizure of around 355.5 kg of heroin from accused persons linked to the case.

During the investigation, Singh was described as a key accused and handler of the network. Delhi High Court records also referred to him as a key figure in the suspected drug syndicate and noted that he was believed to be in Turkiye.

The investigation later expanded to examine the Turkiye-based network and its links with Punjab. Punjab Police also reportedly connected Navpreet Singh, alias Nav, with the suspected drug network operating from Turkiye.POLICE TO CONDUCT FURTHER INVESTIGATION

The Delhi Police told the court that Singh’s custodial interrogation was required to establish the details of the suspected network and verify information gathered during the investigation.

Investigators are expected to examine his movements, alleged links with other accused, the use of identities while abroad and the suspected supply chain connecting Afghanistan with India.

The police are also expected to take Singh to multiple states as part of the investigation. Further details about the alleged drug network and the roles of the accused are expected to emerge as the probe progresses.

Singh has been accused of involvement in drug trafficking and other criminal activities. The allegations against him will be subject to investigation and further proceedings before the court.- Ends
