Nation's second-longest high school football winning streak comes to an end - USA Today
The Sheridan Broncs (WY) haven't lost much over the last half-decade.
Entering Friday night's game against Natrona County (WY), Sheridan has the nation's second longest winning streak dating back to September 24, 2021. That streak was one game away from hitting 60.
Unfortunately for Sheridan, hitting that 60-mark was not meant to be as Natrona County cruised to an unexpected 38-0 win over the visiting Broncs.
It turned out to be a game that Sheridan would be out of from the very beginning. Natrona County led by 10 at the end of the first quarter, and by halftime, that lead was up to 17.
The Mustangs scored twice in the third quarter, pushing their lead up to 31, and if there were any doubts entering the fourth, they tacked on one more touchdown to cap off an emphatic win.
With Sheridan's loss, Carl Albert (OK) now leads the nation with the second-longest winning streak. The Titans escaped Friday night with a 17-16 win over Guthrie (OK) to extend their streak to 58 games, tying Bixby for the longest 11-man winning streak in Oklahoma history.
Garden City (NY) owns the longest winning streak in the country at 68 games. The Trojans will play Massapequa (NY), winners of 25 straight, in a few days after an incoming nor'easter forced the schools to reschedule their game on Saturday to Monday at 5 p.m. ET.
