NCAA: Mangubat, Eligado power JRU past LPU for bounce-back win - GMA Network

Lawrence Mangubat and Jamhir Eligado powered Jose Rizal University past Lyceum of the Philippines University, 94-69, in the NCAA Season 102 men’s basketball tournament on Tuesday.

Mangubat posted 23 points, five rebounds, five assists, and a steal, while Eligado recorded a double-double of 22 points, 16 rebounds, and a steal as the Heavy Bombers bounced back from their loss to San Beda University last Saturday.

The Pirates were neck-and-neck with JRU in the opening frame, trailing 25-22, before the Mandaluyong-based squad limited them to 13 points while scoring 28 of their own to take a 53-35 lead at halftime.

JRU continued to hold off the Pirates in the second half, eventually taking its biggest lead, 91-57, with 3:45 remaining in the fourth quarter after Sanlea Peñaverde’s triple before claiming the victory.

Aside from Mangubat and Eligado, Chris Hubilla had nine points, six rebounds, two assists, a steal, and a block, while Peñaverde and Sean Salvador had eight points each.

Roger Ondoa led the Pirates with 21 points, while Simon Peñafiel added 12.

JRU remained one of the leaders in Group A with a 3-1 record to cap the first group phase, while the Pirates dropped to 1-3.
