Nearly 300 VW Amaroks recalled after curtain-airbag safety alert - IOL
The NCC has recalled nearly 300 VW Amarok vehicles.
The National Consumer Commission is recalling nearly 300 VW Amaroks produced during a limited production period.
The recall comes after the Volkswagen Group Africa (Pty) Ltd notified the Commission.
The commission’s spokesperson, Pheto Ntaba, said the affected vehicles were sold nationwide from June 2, 2026, to September 15, 2026.
The recall affects 291 vehicles in South Africa.
“According to the supplier, in the event of a front or side impact, the curtain airbag may not fully deploy. This is due to contact with a component in the vehicle interior. Sharp-edged plastic components may also come loose or remain in the airbag,” Ntaba said.
The issue may result in reduced protection for the driver and front passenger.
“Sharp-edged parts of the guide element could also separate or remain in the head or neck contact area, resulting in an increased risk of injury in the event of an accident,” Ntaba said.
Consumers who own the affected vehicles are urged to submit their vehicles to any approved Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles dealer for the replacement of the affected components. The work will be carried out at no cost to the customer.
Last week, over 500 Suzuki Grand Vitara vehicles were recalled due to a fuel alert fault.
The recall affects 543 Suzuki Grand Vitara vehicles that were made available for sale through Suzuki dealerships nationwide from May 2025.
Ntaba said the manufacturer alerted the commission that the low fuel warning light may not turn on as the fuel level decreases.
“The driver may therefore not be alerted that the fuel level is low, which could result in the vehicle running out of fuel, causing the engine to stall and preventing it from starting,” Ntaba said.
