NEET PG 2026 candidates allege score discrepancies, AIMSA writes to health minister

The NEET PG 2026 results were declared on September 24, 2026. Within three days of the result announcement, several candidates alleged discrepancies and inconsistencies in their scores and sought clarity on the evaluation process.

A significant number of medical aspirants submitted representations to the All India Medical Students' Association (AIMSA), seeking its intervention over the perceived discrepancies. Following the requests, AIMSA wrote to Union Health Minister JP Nadda, urging the government to direct the release of the official answer key and candidates' recorded responses so that aspirants can independently verify their performance.

The official notice reads, ‘On behalf of the All India Medical Students Association (AIMSA), we respectfully wish to bring to your kind attention the concerns being raised by numerous NEET-PG 2026 aspirants regarding perceived discrepancies and inconsistencies in their examination results.

A considerable number of candidates have approached AIMSA expressing concerns regarding the marks obtained in their results and seeking clarity on the evaluation process. In view of these representations, we respectfully request that the official answer key and recorded responses be released at the earliest, enabling candidates to independently verify their performance.’ All India Medical Students' Association's tweet.

The NEET PG 2026 qualifying cut-off has dropped to its lowest level in six years across categories. The threshold is 262 marks for General/EWS candidates, 244 for General PwBD and 226 for SC, ST and OBC candidates, though the qualifying percentiles remain unchanged.

Experts say the lower score should not be interpreted as an easier path to postgraduate medical education. They point to factors including exam difficulty, score distribution, changing preparation patterns, dependence on coaching and the availability of PG seats. More than 18,000 PG seats were reportedly vacant during the previous counselling cycle, adding another dimension to the fall in the qualifying cut-off.- Ends
