New York Giants elevate 2 from practice squad - Giants Wire

The New York Giants elevated wide receiver Braxton Berrios and linebacker Malik Harrison from the practice squad on Saturday in advance of their season opener against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday Night Football.

The Berrios move followed a plan laid out after final cuts. Released at the 53-man deadline and signed back to the practice squad, the veteran returner was always ticketed for Week 1.

"The plan with Berrios is to treat him like he's playing on the 53," head coach John Harbaugh said. "We have an opportunity, the way that you can work the roster now, to do that. And that's the plan."

Berrios is expected to handle returns (alongside Deonte Banks on kickoffs) and add receiver depth. The eight-year veteran joined the Giants this offseason after Gunner Olszewski suffered a torn ACL.

Harrison, a 2020 third-round pick of the Baltimore Ravens out of Ohio State, signed with New York's practice squad on September 3 after Pittsburgh released him. The 28-year-old spent five seasons under Harbaugh in Baltimore and is projected to contribute on special teams.

The pair gives the Giants two experienced practice-squad elevations for the primetime opener at MetLife Stadium.
