New York Giants' Jaxson Dart faces possible season-ending knee surgery - Giants Wire

The New York Giants may be without star quarterback Jaxson Dart, who faces the potential to undergo season-ending knee surgery.

The second-year quarterback exited Monday night's game against the Los Angeles Rams after taking a nasty hit on the opening series of the prime-time matchup. There was hope that the injury wasn't as bad as anticipated, and that a sprained MCL would keep him off the field for a few weeks.

The latest update from ESPN's Adam Schefter on Tuesday did not echo that sentiment. Instead, it seems the Giants may be without Dart for the remainder of the season.

While that report surfaced, head coach John Harbaugh took a different tune. He told reporters Tuesday that the evaluation process is ongoing and that it hasn't been confirmed that Dart will miss the remainder of the season.

There was immense hope that the Giants were trending in the right direction when Dart led an incredible upset win over the Dallas Cowboys in Week 1. However, that hope is no longer prominent.

Dart showed plenty of promise during his rookie campaign, showing off some impressive dual-threat abilities. In 14 games (12 starts), he completed 63.7% of his passes for 2,272 yards, 15 touchdowns, five interceptions and a 91.7 passer rating. He also added 86 rushing attempts for 487 yards and nine rushing touchdowns.

In Week 1, Dart looked like he took a major step forward. In the 28-20 win, he completed 23-of-29 passes for 230 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions, while adding 54 rushing yards.

The Giants have a favorable schedule coming up, but the excitement has dwindled as they will now lean on veteran Jameis Winston to lead the offense under Matt Nagy and Greg Roman.
