New York Giants' Jaxson Dart will undergo knee surgery, ending his season - Giants Wire

Jaxson Dart’s second NFL season is over.

The New York Giants quarterback is expected to undergo knee surgery that will cost him the rest of 2026, reports NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo. Doctors project a full recovery. The ACL is intact, but surgery is still coming.

Dart has spent the past two days soliciting outside opinions after leaving Monday night’s 28-6 loss at the Los Angeles Rams on the opening drive. He was sandwiched by Byron Young and Josaiah Stewart as he released a third-down pass, and his left knee buckled on the way down. He walked off under his own power.

The first report suggested it was an MCL sprain that might keep him out a few weeks, but Tuesday’s MRI changed the picture. The damage was more extensive than the on-site exams suggested.

Head coach John Harbaugh would not lock in a plan that afternoon, saying evaluations were ongoing and that the organization would not get ahead of a decision. That decision now appears to have been made.

Evaluation revealed that Dart suffered damage to his MCL, PCL, and meniscus.

Dart had just given New York its first real jolt of the Harbaugh era, completing 23 of 29 passes for 230 yards and three touchdowns in a Week 1 win over Dallas. The first offensive series into Week 2, the season flipped.

Jameis Winston will start on Sunday against the Tennessee Titans and is positioned to run the offense for the foreseeable future. The Giants signed him to a two-year extension earlier this month. That contract looks less like insurance now and more like the working plan.

Dart is 23. The consolation, if there is one, is that the ACL survived and physicians expect him back at full strength. That is a 2027 conversation. This year’s quarterback is Winston.
