Police trace burqa-clad woman in CCTV footage
A case of an allegedly missing newborn from the Gynecology Department of Lady Reading Hospital (LRH) Peshawar has come to light, with the affected family accusing hospital staff while the administration has described the woman who took the newborn as someone known to the family who visited the labor room with their consent.
According to the affected family, after the child's birth, women were asked to leave the hospital's labor room; however, when they re-entered sometime later, the newborn was not there. The affected father, Hishmat Ali, has demanded the recovery of the child and action against those responsible.
According to Hishmat Ali, his wife gave birth at LRH the previous day. At the time of the birth, hospital staff removed the women of their household from the gynecology room. Later, when the women went back into the gynecology room, the newborn was not present. He stated that a report of the incident was lodged at the police post established in the hospital, but police have not yet registered an FIR.
The affected father said that a nurse in the gynecology ward instead accused the family of making the child disappear, to which he raised the question of why parents would make their own newborn disappear. Hishmat Ali demanded that the child be recovered immediately and handed over to the family, and that a transparent investigation into the incident be conducted.
Meanwhile, a significant development has emerged in the case, as police have obtained CCTV footage from various cameras at LRH. According to police, the footage allegedly shows a burqa-clad woman fleeing the hospital with the newborn.
Police said the alleged female abductor left the labor room with the child at approximately 11 pm and escaped from the hospital through the Bolton Block gate.
Police said the women of the affected family identified the alleged woman after viewing the CCTV footage.
According to police officials, efforts are underway to arrest the alleged female abductor and recover the newborn, while further evidence is also being collected.
Meanwhile, LRH spokesman Muhammad Asim said the matter is being inquired into and police are also looking into the incident. According to the spokesman, the hospital's CCTV footage has been provided to police, with the help of which the woman allegedly carrying the child is being traced.
LRH spokesman Muhammad Asim also said that the affected family has not yet registered an FIR of the incident.
He stated that the said woman had been coming and going in the labor room with the consent of the affected parents, and the parents had also told the staff that the woman was with them and should be allowed to come and go.
