No big names showed up: Raza Murad questions low turnout at Mushtaq Khan's funeral
Actor Raza Murad has expressed disappointment over the absence of prominent film industry figures at the funeral of veteran actor Mushtaq Khan, who died on September 24 following a battle with cancer. Khan’s last rites were performed on September 25.In a video posted to his Instagram account, Murad addressed the lack of turnout from major celebrities, emphasising that it was unfortunate no leading stars attended to offer a final salute.He said, "Afsoos baat yeh hai koi bhi star unhe apna aakhiri salaam pesh karne nahi aaya (The sad part is that no star came to pay their last respects to him)," adding "koi bada chehra nahi aaya (No big faces showed up)."Without naming specific individuals, Murad highlighted that actors failed to spare even "50 minutes" for the service, while acknowledging Khan’s self-made career. "He did not flatter anyone; he reached this point only on the strength of his work," Murad said.Concluding his message, Murad said that wealth and fame are fleeting, emphasising the need for humility within the industry. His son, Mohsin Khan, shared that while the illness progressed rapidly, the actor remained spirited until the end.
During his conversation with ANI, he also remembered the Welcome actor’s final days and urged fans and colleagues to celebrate his life, work and legacy rather than mourn his death alone.
“Yes. For the past little while, he was dealing with an illness... Well, he wasn't distressed at all, because his end came with a smile. But yes, he had cancer. It was initially at stage one, but as it became aggressive, it advanced through the stages so fast that even we couldn't realise it in time. And by the time it was detected, he was no longer with us in this world. But his end came with a smile on his face,” Mohsin said.
