Nobody Wants This 3 trailer: Joanne and Noah move in together, but what next?

Netflix has released the first trailer for Season 3 of Nobody Wants This, with Joanne (Kristen Bell) and Noah (Adam Brody) now living together and enjoying that new chapter in their relationship. The trailer shows the pair sharing domestic moments while also facing what comes next. It offers a brief look at series creator Erin Foster on screen for the first time as she spills a drink on Adam Brody.

The footage makes clear that the romance is moving forward rather than returning to another round of indecision. Joanne and Noah are shown at home, high-fiving poolside and brushing their teeth in a nod to an iconic Bring It On scene, as the season shifts from asking if they will get together to how they will build a life together.

“We didn’t have to do any more ‘Will they, won’t they?’” told co-showrunner and executive producer Jenni Konner to Netflix. She added, “We know they are going to, and it was sort of, ‘How are they going to?’”

That question brings bigger decisions for the couple. The trailer offers a look at Joanne’s conversion process, overseen by newly introduced rabbi Eden, played by Sarah Silverman. Joanne also has to deal with gossip spreading around Temple Chai, delivered by newcomer Sebastien, played by Andrew Rannells, while Noah tells her they are “perfect” together.

So settled does the relationship appear that Noah’s mother, Bina (Tovah Feldshuh), begins using the word “rebbetzin” around Joanne. As Noah explains, the term means “rabbi’s wife”, signalling how the family’s view of the relationship is changing.

“We feel like there are so many other ways to tell the story of a rom-com without pulling the rug out from under people and creating false obstacles for the couple,” Erin Foster said. “We wanted this couple to be moving in a forward motion together and having all these big romantic moments you want to see,” she added. Season 3 also follows the love lives of those around Joanne and Noah. The story picks up after the separation of Noah’s brother, Sasha, played by Timothy Simons, and his wife, Esther, played by Jackie Tohn. After Season 2, Esther had been determined to find herself, and one swoony scene in the trailer suggests she may be doing exactly that.

“Esther starts out so excited about the possibilities, excited about what’s out there for her, and Sasha really doesn’t want to go out there,” Foster says.

Sasha, however, cannot ignore dating apps forever. The trailer plays with that discomfort, including Henry, Joanne’s father, played by Michael Hitchcock, asking whether Sasha should “shave his entire body” to get a date, and whether a fun new hat might help him win over a potential new partner.

At the same time, the trailer suggests the long-simmering romantic tension between Sasha and Joanne’s sister Morgan, played by Justine Lupe, may be close to the surface now that he is single. Morgan says she is going to focus on herself “for once” in her life, even as Sasha’s response shows how well he knows her.

“What’s interesting about the two of them is that they’re always navigating how they should be with each other,” says co-showrunner and executive producer Bruce Eric Kaplan. “The curveball of Sasha now being single propels us into ‘OK, we are just friends, but now there’s this unspoken thing that exists.’”

Even so, Morgan has ambitions beyond romance this season, with the trailer pointing to a greater focus on herself and her professional future. “Morgan’s passion is lapping Joanne,” Konner jokes. Kaplan adds, “It feels real that, at this juncture in Morgan’s life, she would be like, ‘Okay, how can I become something bigger than I am?’”More about Season 3

The key cast for Season 3 also includes Andrew Rannells, Sarah Silverman, Shiloh Bearman, Sherry Cola, Stephanie Faracy, Michael Hitchcock, Paul Ben-Victor and Tovah Feldshuh. Foster, Konner and Kaplan serve as executive producers and showrunners. Kristen Bell, Sara Foster, Nora Silver, Steven Levitan, Danielle Stokdyk and Jeff Morton are also executive producers, along with Oly Obst for 3arts. The series is produced by 20th Television.
