NPA confirms prosecution of all remaining accused in R360m 'Cat' Matlala tender case

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) said that all of the remaining accused in the R360 million tender corruption case involving Vusimuzi "Cat" Matlala will still be prosecuted.

On Tuesday, suspended national police commission Fannie Masemola who was charged alongside Matlala and 12 officers had all his charges withdrawn against him in the Pretoria Magistrate's Court.

Masemola faced charges relating to the contravention of the Public Finance Management Act, facing allegations that he failed to stop the awarding of the contract and did not hold those behind it accountable.

But upon review of the charges, the NPA has found that there are no reasonable prospects of a successful prosecution.

NPA Spokesperson Kaizer Kganyago "We have to follow the law if we find that one of those people there is not enough evidence against them, we will not be shy to withdraw the charges but if there is prima facie evidence against you, you have to go through the court system."
