NSFAS 2027 applications are open, but funding pressures are mounting - EWN

Applications for NSFAS funding for 2027 are officially open.

Students have until 31 October 2026 to submit their applications.

NSFAS urges all applicants to apply early and include all required documents.

Speaking to CapeTalk/702’s Africa Melane, NSFAS spokesperson Ishmael Mnisi explained that applicants are assessed according to academic and financial eligibility.

“For all those that apply and qualify, [there is] an opportunity to be funded by NSFAS.”

But he also acknowledged that NSFAS does not have an endless pot of funds and is dealing with financial pressures.

“At some point, we do run short of money. We do have some deficits that we need to deal with.”
