The old Marthanda Varma Bridge at Aluva, which was closed for maintenance work, will be reopened to traffic on Thursday, Aluva MLA Anwar Sadath said on Wednesday.
He said the bridge was set to reopen as the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) had completed the repair work two days ahead of schedule.
Sources with the Ernakulam Rural police said traffic would be allowed over the bridge on the national highway from 6 a.m. on Thursday. The closure of the bridge and the resultant traffic regulations imposed from October 28 had caused severe congestion in the area. It was announced that the restrictions would remain in place until November 6.
