Olivia Miles has brought her own style to the WNBA. Not only in the way she plays, but also in the way she shows up on the court: her hair, the goggles. If you go to a Minnesota Lynx game, you’ll see tons of people in the stands, from fully grown men to little kids, rocking Afros. It feels like the league is adapting to her and not the other way around.
Olivia was still in college when I first met her, but I was immediately struck by her self-confidence. There’s an air of wisdom about her that is beyond her years. She’s always known exactly who she is as a person and a player.
She has had such an impressive first year in the WNBA that you can imagine her having great individual success; you can imagine her winning championships. What’s fun is that we get to watch her do it all in real time. Olivia is only just beginning to scratch the surface.
