One aspect of Jaxson Dart's game 'presents a lot of problems' for Rams - Rams Wire
Los Angeles Rams defensive coordinator Chris Shula has the difficult task of scheming up defenses to stop an emerging New York Giants offense. While Shula does get Aaron Donald back, he has to worry about the variety of problems the opposition can create.
In a recent presser, Shula detailed the challenges that New York presents, highlighting the range of abilities that quarterback Jaxson Dart possesses.
"Some elite players I see," said Shula. "First thing is, really physical group. It starts with the offensive line and then you've got some elite players. You've got the quarterback that obviously presents a lot of problems with his mobility, whether its QB design runs or rather him scrambling around back there. You have some elite players. We know what Malik Nabers can do, Isaiah Likely. [Cam] Skattebo. We know they're going to try to get him the ball 15 to 25 times and keep them on schedule. We know who they're trying to isolate in the pass game. It's a really complete group and it's going to be a really tough matchup."
This will be a game that comes down to matchups. Can Shula place the right defender in proper position on a consistent basis? On top of that, he has to wonder how the positioning of his defenders will impact Dart's choices between running and passing the ball, along with the Giants' play-sequencing strategy.
"It looked like he had command of the offense," said Shula on Dart. "It looked like the game had slowed down for him based on what we saw last year. It looks like they did a really nice job. It's not just about one player with the quarterback. It's all those guys functioning together, just like football in general. You could see he had command of the offense. He knew exactly where to go with the ball and he played decisively. He did an excellent job."
As Dart continues to put his game together, the Giants are forming a new physical identity. Shula is tasked with making sure his side is ready, with this game potentially serving as a decisive matchup for Los Angeles' season.
