One person drowned, and four others were feared to have been swept away in a sudden flash flood at Kottappuzha at Amarambalam near Nilambur on Sunday afternoon (September 20).

The incident occurred at Olarvattam Kadavu near 40 Cent Colony, Pookkottumpadam.

According to residents, five persons who were on the riverbank were caught in the unexpected surge. The body of the victim was recovered after a search. The deceased has not yet been identified.

The police said there was no rainfall in the immediate area at the time of the incident, and the flash flood was suspected to have been triggered by heavy rain deep inside the forest.

The police and Fire and Rescue Services personnel reached the spot and continued the search into the night.
