One Patriots Week 1 rushing stat is so bad it's mind-blowing - Patriots Wire
The New England Patriots made some statistical history on Wednesday against the Seattle Seahawks. However, it was not the good kind.
The Patriots averaged 0.07 yards rushing before contact. No team last season was lower than .5, according to The Athletic's Chad Graff.
The Patriots couldn't get anything going against Seattle's elite defensive front. Nothing exemplified that more than quarterback Drake Maye leading the rushing attack with 47 yards on the ground.
Rhamondre Stevenson had 18 carries for 51 yards, averaging 2.8 yards per carry on a night when the Patriots didn't have TreVeyon Henderson as the No. 2 option. Instead, they leaned on Corey Kiner as the top backup, and he finished the game with only six carries for 11 yards.
If anything, the rushing attack was a microcosm of what went wrong for the entire offense, which generated only 277 total yards.
The Patriots have extra time to get over their performance in the opener before shifting their attention to their scheduled Week 2 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
