Online Fraud Very Active in Pakistan - ProPakistani
Pakistan has been suffering from thousands of fake videos circulating online and citizens receiving fraudulent calls and one-time password (OTP) messages, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) Chairman Major General Hafeez Ur Rehman said on Thursday.
Addressing the closing ceremony of Cybersecurity Awareness Week, he said cyberattacks were taking place around the clock and warned that the telecom sector was also vulnerable to digital threats.
He said citizens frequently received suspicious calls and messages, urging them not to forward unverified information that could spread misinformation or expose others to fraud.
The chairman said the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) was working on such cases. He also highlighted efforts by institutions, including the PTA, NADRA and PEMRA, to secure their systems against cyberattacks.
He stressed that improving public awareness and strengthening policies were essential to protecting Pakistanβs digital infrastructure.
As digital services expand, cybersecurity risks are becoming a concern for individuals, businesses and government institutions, he added.
