In a move towards strengthening its research, innovation and digital learning ecosystem, Osmania University on Monday inaugurated three advanced facilities: an Advanced Synthesis Research Laboratory, a Molecular Biology and Cell Culture Laboratory, and an AI & Digital Learning Centre.
These facilities are expected to provide enhanced opportunities for faculty members, research scholars, students and external research organisations to undertake high-quality research and skill-development activities, officials said.
The facilities were inaugurated by Vice-Chancellor Kumar Molugaram, along with senior university officials, registrar G. Naresh Reddy, and officer on special duty S. Jithender Kumar Naik.
Mr. Molugaram, emphasising the importance of developing research infrastructure, encouraged faculty members and research scholars to make effective use for research, innovation and societal applications. The centres must be kept open and utilised by students round the clock, he said, adding that it was a major step in the university’s efforts to promote science, innovation and future-ready education.
Director of PTNR-CFRD, G. Vijaya Charan said the Advanced Synthesis Research Laboratory is dedicated to the design, synthesis and characterisation of novel chemical compounds and advanced molecular systems. An investment of approximately ₹42 lakh, under RUSA 2.0, has been made towards establishing various instruments in the laboratory.
The Molecular Biology and Cell Culture Laboratory provides a platform for research in molecular mechanisms, cellular processes, gene expression, biomolecules and cellular responses. Under the scheme, about ₹52 lakh has been invested in establishing the laboratory.
The AI & Digital Learning Centre integrating Artificial Intelligence and digital technologies into education and research. The centre is designed to support AI applications, data-driven research, digital learning, data analytics and technology-enabled education facilitating training programmes, workshops, faculty development, student skill-development initiatives, research support and data analysis. Approximately ₹81 lakh has been invested in 50 high-end systems and software including SPSS, Molecular Solution and ArcGIS.
