A 13-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped by three youths in Haryana's Faridabad, while her male friend was subjected to unnatural sexual assault, according to details of the case. The incident is said to have taken place on August 24, when the girl had gone out with her friend.

According to the initial information, the accused took the girl and her friend to a dilapidated building, where the sexual assault took place. Following information about the incident, police registered a case and arrested the three people in connection with the case. The accused have been sent to police remand for four days.

The case is being investigated by the police at Faridabad's BPTP police station. Investigators are examining the circumstances surrounding the incident and other aspects of the case.RECENT SEXUAL ASSAULT CASES RAISE CONCERNS OVER WOMEN'S SAFETY

The Faridabad case comes amid renewed concerns over the safety of women and minors following a series of sexual assault cases reported in Delhi and the National Capital Region.

On September 21, a 17-year-old girl was gang-raped by three men inside Astha Kunj Park in Delhi's Kalkaji area. According to Delhi Police, the accused posed as police personnel before separating the teenager from her male friend and taking her to an isolated part of the park. All three accused were subsequently arrested.

Following the incident, Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu directed a safety audit of parks across the national capital, with a focus on lighting, security and regular patrolling. The Delhi Police were also directed to strengthen patrolling, including the deployment of Pink Police personnel around park premises. (India Today report)

The issue also came under the Supreme Court's scrutiny after several sexual assault cases involving minors were reported in Delhi. On September 28, the court criticised the authorities over concerns about public safety and said inadequate lighting, surveillance and administrative facilities could not be allowed to turn public spaces into high-risk zones. The bench also drew parallels with the 2012 Nirbhaya case while stressing the need for effective measures to ensure public safety.- Ends
