Over 100K Rivian vehicles recalled. See impacted models - USA Today

Rivian Automotive is recalling more than 100,000 vehicles citing an issue with the rearview camera image feature.

According to the recall notice posted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the rearview camera image in certain vehicles may be obstructed, reducing motorists' rear visibility.

"The rearview camera image may be obstructed by a notification when in reverse," the notice states.

The issue could increase the risk of a crash. Here's what we know about the recall and what car owners should do next.

According to a Rivian spokesperson, about 100,700 vehicles are potentially affected. The recall number is FSAM-1866. Models included are:

The safety report notes how the driver could identify the issue: "A reverse image that does not appear would be noticeable to the driver when it does not appear as expected. Selecting the camera page on the center display or the vehicle moving and speed becoming non-zero would result in the reverse image reappearing."

No injuries or deaths have been reported in connection with this recall.

Rivian remedied the issue by releasing an over-the-air software update at no charge. More than 95% of affected vehicles have downloaded the software, the spokesperson said.

Notification letters will be sent out on Nov. 9.
