Over 1k families in Pangasinan, La Union affected by flooding receive aid from GMA Kapuso Foundation - GMA Network

Families in Pangasinan and La Union who were affected by flooding due to the Southwest Monsoon or Habagat received aid from GMA Kapuso Foundation.

According to “24 Oras” on Monday, the livelihood of Renejun Lopez, a fisherman from Agoo, La Union, has been struggling for the past two weeks after his livelihood was affected by the flood.

He repairs fishing equipment to make ends meet, earning him about P200.

“It is not safe for them to go fishing, and here in our coastal, ma’am, the whole stretch of our coastal, gets flooded,” Agoo Information Officer Abegail Albay said in Filipino.

In Bugallon, Pangasinan, tupig-seller Milagros Dela Peña has also lost her income due to the flooding.

Residents in the area experienced neck-deep floodwaters at the height of the Habagat, which damaged the equipment that Milagros uses for making tupig.

According to the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office of Pangasinan, the areas of Bugallon, Urbiztondo, Calasiao, San Carlos, and Dagupan remain flooded.

The GMA Kapuso Foundation, in continuation of its Operation Bayanihan project, headed to Pangasinan and La Union recently to deliver food packs to residents who temporarily lost their income due to the Habagat.

Overall, 1,500 families benefited from the relief operations, including those of farmers, fisherfolk, vendors, and tricycle drivers.
