Over 230 motorists caught for drunk driving across four commissionerates in Hyderabad

As many as 218 motorists were caught for drunk driving during special checks conducted by Hyderabad and Cyberabad traffic police, while another 20 offenders were apprehended in separate drives in Malkajgiri and Future City commissionerates.
Hyderabad Traffic Police accounted for the highest number, catching 129 motorists during a two-day special drive on September 18 and 19. Two-wheelers dominated the violations, with 101 riders caught, apart from 10 three-wheeler and 18 four-wheeler and other vehicle drivers.
Three motorists recorded Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) levels above 300, while 24 others recorded readings above 150. The largest group, comprising 59 motorists, recorded BAC levels between 51 and 100.
Cyberabad Traffic Police apprehended another 80 motorists during its weekend drive, including 62 two-wheeler riders, two three-wheeler drivers and 16 four-wheeler drivers.
Courts disposed of 142 drunk-driving cases in Cyberabad between September 14 and 19. Twelve offenders were sentenced to imprisonment along with a fine, while 130 were fined.
Malkajgiri Commissionerate Traffic Police caught 11 motorists between September 13 and 19. They included eight two-wheeler riders, two four-wheeler drivers and one heavy-vehicle driver. All 11 were men. Ten recorded BAC levels between 36 mg/100 ml and 200 mg/100 ml and one between 201 mg/100 ml and 300 mg/100 ml.
Courts disposed of 111 drunk-driving cases in Malkajgiri during the period, with two offenders receiving imprisonment and a fine, 19 receiving a fine and social service, and 90 being fined.
Future City Traffic Police, meanwhile, apprehended nine motorists during checks conducted between September 12 and 18. Unlike the other commissionerates, four-wheelers made up the majority of those caught, accounting for seven cases, while the remaining two involved two-wheelers.
Cyberabad, Malkajgiri and Future City police warned that an inebriated motorist causing a fatal accident could be booked under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which carries a maximum punishment of 10 years’ imprisonment along with a fine.
