Karachi, Lahore airports to get modern systems
A Rs10 billion project has been launched to install modern air traffic management systems at Karachi and Lahore airports as part of the Pakistan Airports Authority's ongoing efforts to modernise the country's air traffic management infrastructure, sources said on Thursday. Under the project, state-of-the-art air traffic management and voice communication systems will be installed at Jinnah International Airport in Karachi and Allama Iqbal International Airport in Lahore, while the air traffic control centres at both airports will also be upgraded in line with modern requirements, according to sources. The technical bid opening process for the installation of the new air traffic management systems has been completed, sources said, adding that the financial bids of the bidders who qualify in the technical evaluation will be opened in the next phase. The project will also include the installation of a voice communication and control system alongside the new air traffic management system at both airports.
