PAGASA monitoring 2 LPAs outside PAR

State weather bureau PAGASA is monitoring two low pressure areas (LPA) outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Friday.

In its latest weather forecast at 5 p.m., PAGASA said that the LPA in the West Philippine Sea has a low chance of intensifying into a tropical depression. It is located 1,005 kilometers west of southwest Luzon.

The trough of the LPA is expected to bring scattered rains in Metro Manila, most of Luzon, and the western section of Visayas.

“Dahil sa mga susunod na araw ang magiging galaw ng nasabing low pressure area ay west northwestward, so papalayo ito sa ating bansa and along with it ay dadalhin nito ang mga kaulapan associated with sa trough nito,” PAGASA weather specialist Daniel James E. Villamil said.

(In the coming days, the said low pressure area will move west northwestward, so it is going away from our country and along with it, it will bring the clouds associated with its trough.)

This could lessen the rains in the eastern sections of Luzon, Villamil explained. However, rains are still likely to persist over the western parts of Luzon until Sunday.

Visayas and Mindanao are expected to experience generally fair weather.

The other LPA, located 3,035 kilometers east of eastern Visayas, is unlikely to turn into a tropical depression within the next 24 hours. It will also not impact the country, Villamil said.

In its 4 pm weather bulletin, PAGASA said that the Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, and Cagayan Valley will likely experience cloudy skies and scattered rains due to the trough of the LPA.

Due to the southwest monsoon, Metro Manila, the rest of Luzon, Western Visayas, and Northern Samar will also experience overcast skies with scattered rains. —LDF, GMA News
