Pair of Packers players fined for acts of unnecessary roughness in Week 2 - Packers Wire

Green Bay Packers linebacker Ty'Ron Hopper and rookie defensive lineman Chris McClellan were both fined by the NFL for on-field conduct during Week 2 of the 2026 season.

Both were fined on special teams plays. Hopper was fined $8,325 for an unpenalized unnecessary roughness on the opening kickoff against the New York Jets, while McClellan was fined $7,167 for unnecessary roughness on a punt return in the fourth quarter.

On the opening kickoff, Hopper can be clearly seen hitting a Jets player in the back after the play is over. Officials either did not see the act or decided it did not rise to the level of a penalty, but the NFL disagreed. On a punt with 12:47 to go in the fourth quarter, McClellan got in the face of a Jets player and forcefully pushed the player long after the whistle. He was penalized 15 yards.

Hopper and McClellan became the third and fourth Packers player to be fined through two weeks this season. Fines for Week 3 will be available to the public next Saturday.

Jets quarterback Geno Smith was fined for taunting after this third quarter touchdown pass. He was penalized for the act.

Overall, the NFL fined players for 38 different on-field issues during Week 2, up from 20 in Week 1. Lions receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown was fined for four different instances of unsportsmanlike conduct.
