The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami on Tuesday criticised the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam-led regime for being “lethargic” in handling the procurement of an essential commodity - onions.
In a post on his social media handle, Mr Palaniswami referred to reports of onions rotting at a warehouse in Korrukkupet following the delay in unloading the onions from lorries for the last three days. Even though the State government had said it had not accepted 450 tonnes of onions from the National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India (NAFED) for the reasons of poor quality, the latter had contended that it had not yet received the returned consignment. In the process, only people of the State were left to suffer, Mr Palaniswami argued.
He called upon the government to tackle the issue of price control carefully.
