Parked bus set on fire in Pallabi
A parked bus has been set on fire in Dhaka’s Pallabi area, adding to a series of bus fires and crude bomb explosions reported in Dhaka since Friday.
The Paristan Paribahan bus caught fire around 7:30am on Sunday while it was parked beside Government College on Ceramic Road, police said.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police Mirpur Division Deputy Commissioner Md Mostak Sarker told bdnews24.com that the bus caught fire in the rain.
“We are investigating who was responsible for the incident,” he said.
Bus owner Khan Md Mahitul Islam said a former driver called him around 7:30am to inform him that the bus was on fire.
He later went to the scene and found the bus engulfed in flames.
“A tea-stall owner nearby saw smoke coming from the bus,” he said.
The registration number of the burnt bus is Dhaka Metro-B-11-8703, according to the owner.
He said no case had been filed over the incident so far.
From Saturday evening into the night, buses were set on fire at two locations in Mirpur, as well as in Badda and Matuail, while a pickup van was set on fire in South Keraniganj.
Two parked buses were also set on fire in Mymensingh and Rajbari.
Police also reported crude bomb explosions around midnight at a road beside Tin Netar Mazar at Dhaka University, on the road beneath the Secretariat Metro Station and on the platform of Kamalapur Railway Station.
