Upa Lokayukta Justice B. Veerappa paid a surprise visit to the bus station in Chikkodi in Belagavi district of Karnataka on September 24.

He visited various food stalls at the bus station and checked the quality of the food items being sold. At the bus station’s cafeteria, he inspected the food preparation area and the storage room. He emphasised the need to serve quality food to customers, and prioritise cleanliness.

He inquired about the wages paid to the staff and directed the management to ensure that minimum wages are paid in accordance with government guidelines.

Responding to complaints that the CCTV cameras installed in the premises were not functional, he directed the officials concerned to ensure immediate repair of the equipment. He instructed that the contract be cancelled if there were complaints regarding the cleanliness of restrooms or the fees charged for their use. He directed officials to ensure supply of clean drinking water at all times.

He objected to the practice of issuing vehicle parking receipts that lacked details, such as vehicle number, and told officials to take corrective measures. NWKRTC Divisional Controller M.R. Munji and district administration officials were present during the inspection.
