Parties Backing Prabowo Are Losing Support - Tempo.co English
TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - At his parents' home in Cikeas, Bogor, West Java, Democrat Party General Chair Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono drafted the speech he would deliver at the party's 25th anniversary celebration. Agus worked on the speech with a small team before handing the draft to his father, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, who is also Chair of the Democrat Party's High Council.
Agus then delivered the speech at the party's celebration at the Yudhoyono Auditorium in Jakarta on Saturday, September 5, 2026. The speech, which was live-streamed, went viral. The 2000 Military Academy graduate spoke about the limits of political power. He also urged the central and regional governments to listen to the people.
Herzaky Mahendra, Head of the Democrat Party's Strategic Communications Agency, said Agus listened to and incorporated input from several senior party figures, including Yudhoyono, as he prepared the speech. "All the input was blended and formulated before the speech was finalized," Herzaky told Tempo on Friday, September 11.
Two Democrat Party politicians familiar with the drafting process said Yudhoyono edited Agus' draft. According to the two politicians, the initial version contained too many testimonials from members of the public about the Democrat Party. Yudhoyono removed several of the more excessive testimonials.
