Patriots HC Mike Vrabel reveals real reason for benching Morgan Moses

New England Patriots coach Mike Vrabel said the team’s decision to sit right tackle Morgan Moses during Sunday’s Week 3 game was shaped by the score and a desire to manage the 13-year veteran’s workload, via Patriots Wire's Sophie Weller.

It ultimately led to rookie Caleb Lomu seeing time at the right tackle slot.

Moses has appeared in all three games this season and has started each contest at right tackle. He has been the Patriots’ trusted right tackle dating back to last season. However, at 35 years old, he has seen his workload management from the offseason spill into the regular season with a reduced amount of playing time against the Jaguars.

"Not that I'm aware of," Vrabel responded when asked if Moses' job was in jeopardy.

With the game out of reach, Vrabel said the Patriots used the opportunity to give Lomu additional reps. Lomu replaced Moses as New England looked to give its young rookie tackle meaningful snaps while also giving Moses time off.

The Patriots lost 35-6 to Jacksonville, falling to 1-2 on the year. New England will now set their sights on getting back in the win column next week against the Buffalo Bills.
