PBA: Converge evens QF series vs. Rain or Shine - GMA Network
Converge squeaked past Rain or Shine, 130-125, in Game 2 of their PBA Governors’ Cup quarterfinal series on Friday at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium to even the series at one game apiece.
After taking a 70-56 lead at halftime, Rain or Shine saw its advantage trimmed in the third quarter as Converge outscored the Elasto Painters, 37-25, to take a 95-93 lead heading into the final period.
The two teams then went neck-and-neck in the fourth quarter, with the game tied at 120-all with 3:15 remaining following an Adrian Nocum triple.
However, Cameron Clark’s free throws and Alec Stockton’s jumper put Converge ahead before Luis Villegas knocked down a triple to keep Rain or Shine within striking distance.
With the game hanging in the balance, Mikey Williams drilled a three-pointer to give the FiberXers some breathing room, before Calvin Abueva added two free throws after drawing a foul from Nocum.
Rain or Shine tried to mount another comeback, but Deo Cuajao’s attempt from the four-point line resulted in a foul by Abueva, sending him to the free-throw line, where he converted twice.
Stockton then sank his free throws after being fouled by Villegas to seal the victory for the FiberXers.
Converge import Cameron Clark finished with 22 points, three rebounds, three assists, three steals, and two blocks, while Juan Gomez de Liaño led the local players with 20 points, eight assists, and seven rebounds.
The victory spoiled Aaron Fuller’s double-double effort of 26 points and 15 rebounds. Nocum added 22 points and a career-high 18 assists, while Clarito also chipped in 22 points.
