PBA: Hot-shooting Barangay Ginebra downs San Miguel, nears semis - GMA Network

Barangay Ginebra caught fire from beyond the arc to take down San Miguel, 126-99, in Game 2 of the PBA Governors’ Cup quarterfinals on Friday at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium in Manila.

The Gin Kings knocked down 16 three-pointers compared to San Miguel’s combined eight three- and four-point shots, moving within a win of securing a spot in the semifinals.

Barangay Ginebra got off to a strong start, outscoring San Miguel, 34-24, in the opening quarter. The Beermen, however, fought back to trim the deficit to 69-62 at halftime.

The Gin Kings then took control in the second half, outscoring San Miguel, 33-20, in the third quarter to establish a commanding 102-82 lead heading into the final frame.

Barangay Ginebra maintained its advantage in the fourth quarter to seal the victory.

“I’ve seen a lot of things happen. Teams come back, teams get on a roll. It’s up on us to not relax, not let our guard down, and keep coming out with the same intensity and play the game that we’ve been doing,” Barangay Ginebra head coach Tim Cone said.

Ginebra import Jordan Murphy led the way with 33 points, 10 rebounds, nine assists, and two steals. RJ Abarrientos added 22 points, six assists, five rebounds, and two steals, while Stephen Holt chipped in 19 points, including five three-pointers.

CJ Perez paced San Miguel with 18 points, while Jerrick Ahanmisi and June Mar Fajardo contributed 17 and 16 points, respectively.

The 27-point victory also marked Barangay Ginebra’s second-largest winning margin this season, behind its 115-85 triumph over Blackwater last July 24. It was also the team's biggest playoff winning margin since its 126-99 victory over NorthPort in Game 5 of last season's Commissioner's Cup semifinals.
